For Sale: 1971 Javelin AMX, 360 4-bbl V-8, 4-speed - $19,000 - Coeur d’Alene, ID

1971 AMC Javelin AMX for sale by owner - Coeur D Alene, ID - craigslist
Seller's Description:

One of only 2054 originally manufactured. One AMC forum said possibly only around 350 remaining. Here is your opportunity to buy a very rare car.  Specs: 360 4-barrel V-8, 4-speed. PS, am/fm/tape player. Non power drum brakes. Edelbrock intake manifold and carburetor. No A.C.

Work done: Reupholstered seats, exhaust system. Rebuilt transmission, new clutch. Rebuilt windshield wiper motor. Body repainted some years back. Other parts more recently: engine bay, underside of hood and trunk, trunk compartment, front valance, engine. New t-stripe, hood insulation, trunk rubber seal, rubber door seals. New aluminum radiator, newer shocks, door hinges rebuilt, Petronix ignition. New tires on period correct American wheels. Front end rebuilt. Aligned nicely - tracks well for 52-year-old car. Many more items could be mentioned.

Disclosure: Car is 52 years old. Photos look better than car in person. Body work and paint job were not perfect. Looks sweet from 20 feet. Engine needs refreshed. Small oil-pan leak. No headliner. Comes with new headliner material. As is common, window mechanisms need rebuilt. (They go up and down fine though). A little electrical work to make dash lights and gauges perfect.  This car is an absolute hit with people. We have enjoyed it for 10 years. Now it is your turn.

Please do not ask for a car fax or other documentation. We had no difficulty getting a clear title in our name from the previous owner. Vin information was verified by our local law enforcement. Ten years have gone by with no difficulties getting insurance, etc.  Two scammers so far. If truly interested call me.

IMHO, this appears to be a $19,000. restoration project. Just about every component needs to be repaired.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought a tach was standard with the AMX package?  Does this just have the badges?

I don't disagree. Might be a "clone" (read: fake) AMX. The '71 AMX came with a two-spoke steering wheel; the NON-AMX Javelins had the three spoke wheel.

The 1971 Javelin AMX package included beyond the Javelin SST equipment the electric clock, center console, slot-style wheels and E70-14 tires, 360cid/245hp 2-bbl V8, mesh grille, cowl induction hood and rear spoiler, though no mention of tachometer.  There was an optional Javelin/AMX "Go-Package" for $498.95 which included the 401 4-bbl V8, dual exhaust, hood "T" stripe, Rally-Pac Instrumentation, handling package, cowl-air carburetor induction system, heavy-duty cooling system, Twin-Grip differential, power disk brakes, E60-15 Polyglas raised white letter tires, 15 X 7" styled steel wheels and space-saver spare (Source: The Standard Catalog of Independents, edited by Ron Kowalke)

Only the body style number 7179-8 would verify if this car is legitimate.
